Loys was a boy of six or seven when Reynault plucked him out of a nearby orphanage after perceiving his brightness. The blond lad took quickly to the quirky structure of covenant life, enjoying it far more than seeking boyish adventures outdoors. He picked up Latin almost without trying and soon became a valuable message-carrier and page for the magi and Mons Electi specialists. The year of Tranquillina’s arrival at the covenant was an exquisite match of timing to Loys’s puberty, and he soon had an abiding crush on the young-looking maga; unfortunately, he also became absolutely convinced that Tranquillina had similar romantic feelings for him and was just waiting until the time was right. At the age of seventeen, Loys knew that the magi were looking for something more substantial for him to do around the covenant; when he completed a crucial task for Tranquillina during the Tribunal meeting, he boldly asked to be assigned to her as a dedicated servant. Loys now works beside Tranquillina in her laboratory, polishing both the glassware and his obsession for the lass.
